Inmate under treatment at IGMH ICU has died

An inmate serving sentence for theft has died during treatment at the ICU of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Sources say that the inmate that died around 2:30 p.m. was Vishah Ali of S. Hulhudhoo.

He died while under treatment of his liver.

Media Official of the Maldives Correctional Service, Moosa Rameez told Sun Media that the inmate who died was into his third year into a 69 month sentence for theft.

Vishah was ordered to be taken to Malé on Wednesday by the prison doctor when he consulted the doctor for a fever. According to the official, he was transferred to the ICU after the doctor from IGMH noticed liver problems.

The Media Official of Corrections said that they were making arrangements to take him abroad for treatment when he died.
