Mariya decides to contest for MDP President, Aslam for VP

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that the only candidates who expressed interest for the posts of the party President and Vice President before the deadline, are Mahchangolhi Uthuru MP Mariya Ahmed Didi and Hithadhoo Uthuru MP Mohamed Aslam respectively.

The elections for the two posts will be held on 31 August.

MDP said that the party’s elections committee will assess the validity of the candidacy of the two individuals, and make an announcement within three days.

MDP’s regulations pertaining to party elections state that candidates for the post of President and Vice President have to submit that they have the support of at least 300 members.
