Prosecutor General’s Office has said that current PG Aishath Bisam had nothing to do with rejecting the case against Home Minister Umar Naseer and sending it back to police.
An official from PG Office spoke to “Sun” on Thursday and said that the case against Umar was filed with Criminal Court on December 11, 2013, request to send the case back to PG Office made on August 7, 2014 and that Criminal Court sent the case back to PG Office on September 9, 2014.
Official said that decision to send the case back to police for further investigation was made on November 16, 2015 and finally sent to police on November 30, 2015.
“Therefore this was a decision made before Bisam was appointed as PG,” said the official.
PG Office said the case was sent back to police because they had not prepared analysis report on video submitted as evidence.
Umar was charged with disobedience after police said it was implied in his speech during rally near Maldives Monetary Authority on January 22, 2012 that he would climb the military headquarters with a 50 foot ladder.
Umar has denied the charge.
