Supreme Court says no courtroom can be built without their permission

The Supreme Court of the Maldives has said that a courtroom cannot be built anywhere in the country without a permit from the court.

A statement issued by the Supreme Court tonight said that aside from a location where courtroom that already exists, a courtroom can be built with the permission from the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court made the statement at a time where a courtroom of the Criminal Court is being built at a fast pace at the Police detention island of Dhoonidhoo.

The Circular by the Supreme Court said that according to circular issued in 2009 by the Supreme Court, obtaining a building for a use by the Judicial System, where to build, repairs and looking after them would be done by the Department of Judicial Administration under a regulation set by the Supreme Court.

And so no facility or division of a court shall establish a courtroom to conduct a trial outside the regulations.
