Court rules HDC violated agreement when taking back land leased to Villa Hakatha

Hulhumale’ Court has ruled that Housing Development Corporation violated agreement when they took back land leased to Villa Hakatha Private Limited for industrial work in Hulhumale.

Hulhumale Court ruled on Wednesday that HDC violated agreement between them and Villa Hakatha when they dissolved the agreement and seized the land leased to the company under an agreement signed on August 1, 2005.

Court ruled that letter sent by HDC to Villa Hakatha announcing that the agreement was dissolved didn’t align with set legal and judicial regulations. The Court therefore ordered that

HDC honor the earlier agreement between them and Villa Hakatha.

Court also said that Villa Hakatha had legal ground to sue for compensation for their loss.
