Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, who had been deeply involved in founding Malivian Democratic Party (MDP) and served as Vice President of MDP had left the party.
Zaki sent out a statement on Wednesday saying that he decided to leave the party as he was permanently shifting out of the country.
In the statement, he thanked MDP members for the faith and support they provided him.
Zaki announced that he had decided to leave politics in 2012 while in India; accusing the government of brutality and saying that he would not return to the country until a democratic government was established in Maldives.
However, Zaki came back to the country during Presidential Elections in 2013.
Zaki left for India on premises he needed to seek medical attention while police was investigating the high-profile case of intoxication after him, two parliament members and some others were arrested under suspicion they were drinking alcohol after police raided H.dh. Hondaidhoo.
Zaki has filled senior positions within government during his career including serving as minister over a decade during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration. He also served as a member of parliament, special parliament, two terms as SAARC Secretary-General and Vice President of MDP.
