India and Maldives discuss to extinguish terrorism

Indian Foreign Secretary Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has discussed extinguishing terrorism with the Maldivian President, Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom.

At the meeting today at the President’s Office, discussions were held regarding cross-border terrorism, health care and economic development in the Maldives.

Foreign Secretary and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar arrived in the Maldives this morning and is scheduled to leave tonight.

The President’s Office said that the Indian Foreign Secretary re-assured the President of India’s continued support at the meeting today.

The website of the President’s Office said that “The President also briefed the Indian Foreign Minister on the current political landscape of the country, while also touching on social issues. The President went on to express his appreciation for India’s support of the Maldives in the international arena.”

The Indian Foreign Secretary also called on the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Dunya Maumoon. “During the call held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Dunya welcomed the Special Envoy to the Maldives and reflected on ongoing cooperation between the two countries. Bilateral cooperation between the two counties has further enhanced since the last meeting of the Maldives-India Joint Commission that was held in Maldives in October 2015, enhancing initiatives for investment, trade and economic cooperation.” According to the Foreign Ministry’s website.

The Indian Foreign Secretary arrived in the Maldives this morning with the Joint Secretary of the Indian External Ministry, Renu Pall and the Under Secretary Shashwati Arya.
