Mary Brown and Aioli Restaurant fined for expat cashiers

Mary Brown and Aioli Restaurant has been fined with MVR 10,000 for using expatriate staff as cashiers.

Sources say that both of the businesses were fined today in the operation being conducted by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Information Officer of Immigration, Hassan Khaleel told Sun Media today that 16 restaurants have been checked by Immigration today out of which three restaurants were fined with MVR 10,000 each for having expatriate cashiers.

Along with the restaurants fined today, the number of businesses fined in the operation by Immigration since 30 December has risen to 67.

Businesses can be fined between MVR 10,000 - 50,000 for having expatriates as cashiers. The law came into effect banning expatriate cashiers on 1 April 2015.
