Man arrested for building guesthouse in Thilafushi and keeping Bangladeshi expats

An expatriate has been arrested for building a guesthouse on a land leased to a local at the industrial island of Thilafushi and keeping Bangladeshi expatriates.

Information Officer of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Hassan Khaleel said that the man was arrested in a collaborated operation with the Police in Saturday. Immigration did not say the number people at the guesthouse building at the time of the arrest.

It is yet unclear if the man arrested in Thilafushi was involved or victim of human trafficking. An investigation is now underway to determine that.

Keeping people at Thilafushi for a fee is illegal.

Immigration is now working with the Police to find the man the land was originally leased to.
