President Yameen sends message of sympathy to Indian Prime Minister

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, following the earthquake that occurred in northeast India.

President’s Office said that the President’s message reads as follows:

“I was saddened to learn of the earthquake to hit northeast India, causing the loss of innocent lives, injury to many, and damage to infrastructure.

“At this time of distress, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in sending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and neighbourly people of India.

“Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit India's remote northeast region early morning on Monday, killing six people, injuring 100 others and causing damage to several buildings. The epicenter of the earthquake was 35 kilometers (20 miles) northwest of Imphal.
