Colonel Nazim receives permission to visit Singapore for heart surgery

Former Defense Minister Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim who is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence has been given permission by the Correctional Service to visit Singapore for a heart surgery.

Nazim was given permission to leave the country for treatment for a period of 15 days.

The Correctional Service told Sun Media today that the decision to give the duration of 15 days was made after the Medical Board of the Correctional Service reviewed his case.

The former Defence Minister was sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Criminal Court on 27 March 2015 after being convicted of possession of a firearm.

The appeal hearings of this case are now underway at the High Court.
