Dunya: Opening of the Embassy begins new chapter Japan-Maldives relations

Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has said that opening of the Japanese Embassy in the Maldives is a new chapter in the relations between the Maldives and Japan.

In a statement on the Ministry’s website yesterday, Minister Dunya said that a new Japanese resident Embassy was opened in Male’ City yesterday and Government of the Maldives believes that the new Embassy would completely change the dynamics of Maldives-Japan relations.

Minister Dunya said that a Japanese Embassy in the Maldives not only symbolizes the relations between the two countries but it is also “another stamp of approval by the international community of the strong and prudent policies of President Yameen.”

Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon extended sincere congratulations on behalf of the Maldivian Government to the Government of Japan and it’s people.

Japan has been providing aid to the Maldives in diverse sectors via Embassy of Japan in Colombo, Sri Lanka until now. A Maldivian resident Embassy was opened in Tokyo in 2007.
