Remains of Ziyadhaa sent abroad for autopsy

Police have decided to send the remains of Ziyaadha Naeem (G. Dh. Thinadhoo), who passed away in the ICU of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) following sexual assault, abroad to do an autopsy.

Information Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali confirmed to Sun Media that they are sending the remains abroad to do an autopsy. He said that the Police is discussing as to which country the remains would be sent to.

Ismail Ali said that the case which was originally being treated as a sexual assault is now being treated as a homicide by the Serious and Organized Crime Department of the Police.

An autopsy is a post-mortem examination to discover the cause of death. The latest autopsy was of Hussain Solah following an incident in prison.

Sources have said that the Police had informed the family that an autopsy is absolutely necessary for the investigation. Police said this since they were unable to get any information from her due to her condition at the hospital.

Police have arrested her husband, 40-year-old Ibrahim Shah in suspicion of sexually assault and has been remanded for a third time since his arrest.
