President Calls for Peace

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has called everyone to work for the peaceful ordering of the nation.

Addressing the people of H.A. Hoarafushi in his tour to H.A Atoll, the President said that “we are all citizens of the Maldives, no matter which party we are in, and no matter what color we sport, and no matter which island we belong to”. The President also said that we need to stand as one for the progress and development of the Maldives.

The President said that his foremost duty as President of the nation is to ensure that the country remains peaceful, united, and progressive.

The President said that some of the laws in the Maldives need to be reformed, and noted that it is the “second most important task to be attended to in order to bring the nation back on track”. The President expressed his hope that the People’s Majlis would start anew with the new session and do the task of reforming the laws as per the order agreed upon among political parties.

The President described the acts of violence perpetrated on the 8th of February in some parts of the country as “cruel, terrorist acts”. He also requested the Prosecutor General to send the cases of those who perpetrated them to the court as soon as possible.
