Seven arrested for trying to prevent President

Seven people have been arrested in H.A. Dhidhdhoo for tryint to prevent President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s visit to the island. Out of the seven people arrested, one person was a member of Dhidhhoo Island Council.

A Police Media Official said today that seven people were arrested in Dhidhdhoo for trying to create chaos amid the President’s visit to the island, and for trying to hinder the police from discharging their legal obligations, and for behaving against the social norms in trying to incite violence.

However, Mohamed Naeem, President of Dhidhhdoo Council said today that 4 councilors were there among the arrested. He also said that the councilors were arrested “because there is no support for the rebels in this island”, and claimed that “they always attempt to arrest councilors or to abolish the Council”.

Naeem also claimed that “there were no disorder in the island, but the police came here and created disorder”.

On the other hand, a person who spoke from Dhidhdhoo said that “someone had uprooted national flag posts at the harbor area, planted for the visit of the President”.

President Waheed visited Dhidhdhoo despite attempts to block his visit, and left the island today at noon.
