Japan to establish embassy in Maldives next month

A new Chancellery of the Embassy of Japan will commence operations in Malé on 1 January 2016.

In a statement issued on Monday, 28 December 2015, the Embassy of Japan to the Maldives, presently located in Colombo, Sri Lanka, said that the two countries have enjoyed a cordial and friendly relationship since diplomatic relations were established in 1967, and the new embassy in Malé would be a key station for further strengthening bilateral ties as preparations get under way to mark the 50th anniversary in 2017 of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
