Sea swells cause flooding in Komandoo, Holhudhoo

The islands of Shaviyani Komandoo and Noonu Holhudhoo have been hit by sea swells.

Flooding started at around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, 28 December 2015, in both islands.

Police said one house in Komandoo suffered damage and lost electricity, prompting evacuation. The water reached about 300 feet into the island.

In Holhudhoo, the water reached three inhabited houses. Police said the flooding was controlled and water was prevented from entering the houses by using sandbags.

The sea swells were most likely caused by bad weather.
