Lawyer: Adheeb has been cleared from the suspicions regarding the

Lawyer Hussain Shameem representing the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb has said that it has been proven that the suspicions against his client regarding the explosion that took place on board the Presidential Launch “Finifenma” are completely false.

In the statement issued by lawyer Shameem saying that the accusations against Ahmed Adheeb has been completely fabricated, he said that the former Vice President was first arrested regarding the suspected involvement in the launch explosion.

But on the first in the Police investigation into the launch explosion, only “two-three questions, no more” were asked.

An do so Shameem said that that Police has said that Adheeb is suspected in the MMPRC (Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation) case alone.

“That is, the Police confirming that the suspicions Ahmed Adheeb was first arrested for, (his involvement in the Presidential Launch explosion,) he has been cleared of and released from that detention. Police said that Ahmed Adheeb is now being suspected of only the MMPRC case.” Shameem’s press statement said.

There has been no word from the Police regarding the matter as of yet.

Shameem said that the government’s voice about detonating a bomb on board the Presidential launch and high treason were words led by people envious of Adheeb’s political career, without any proof for a political motive.

Ahmed Adheeb was charged with abuse of power for leasing a lagoon in Malé atoll for 50 years to Ebony Private Limited on 30 September 2015 as the acting head of the Tourism Ministry.

He was charged under Article 513-C of the Penal Code.

Regarding the case, Shameem said that MMPRC is a government company and the Law of Public Government Companies states who to hold responsible.

And while Adheeb guarantees that no decision was made without informing President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom since the government tasked him with the work until his arrest, Shameem said that those decisions were within the law and regulations, with the President’s direct approval and knowledge.

While the trial on the case has now begun, Adheeb has been given 30 days to appoint a lawyer.
