Umar: Some countries are passing resolutions not because the Maldives does not have a democracy

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that some friendly nations are working against the Maldives not because the Maldives does not have a democracy.

Speaking at ceremony at the Islamic Center commemorating the national unity day, Minister Umar Naseer said that resolutions are being passed not to strengthen the Maldivian democracy.

“…since 2004 up to now attempts have been made to get into the Maldives through different doors, worked multiple times using Trojan Horse tactics as well. With no way of entering, this pressure we are seeing now.” Umar said.

The Minister said that due to what brought to some Islamic countries in the name of democracy, they not only didn’t have any democracy, but lost stability of the country as well. And a large number of people have dies in these conflicts.

In his speech, the Home Minister criticized a documentary made the about the Maldives recently by a German company.

And so he said that some Maldivians believe that a sign board that bans bikinis at the beaches of inhabited islands of the country means the country supports IS.

“…wearing bikinis at public swimming areas is not in our value system. That is not something we believe. But since we have signs that bans bikinis at our beaches at inhabited islands, that is being brought to the attention of the entire world being shown in videos by a group from our ranks, to show us supporters of IS, as an extremist country.” Home Minister Umar said.
