Hanyaameedhoo councilor finds ambergris

A member of Adh. Hanyaameedhoo Island Council has found something believed to be ambergris from the shores of that island.

Council President Mohamed Waheed informed “Sun” on Saturday that ambergris found by the council member is believed to weigh “at least a kilo”. And that most of the people to whom it had been shown said it was an ambergris.

There has been a slight uptick in number of cases of ambergris being found in the country; with a man from R. Inguraidhoo finding a 3 kilo ambergris just last week.

A man from Sh. Comandoo found an ambergris weighing 30 kilo the week before last – estimated to fetch around MVR 17 million.
