Criminal Court has extended remand period of Sri Lankan man who is allegedly a trained sniper hired to assassinate President Abdulla Yameen for the fourth time.
Police information officer Ismail Ali informed “Sun” on Tuesday that police were granted remand period of a further 15-days for the man, and that the remand hearing was held last week.
Police had reported earlier that the 27 year-old man was arrested from Maldives on October 24.
Police also said that investigation into the case revealed the man had been hired by some Maldivians to assassinate the president.
Government was severely shaken-up after the explosion onboard presidential speedboat on September 28 with President Yameen, First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim and senior government officials.
First Lady Fathimath, who was on the seat meant for President when the explosion occurred was flung across the room with the impact resulting in injuries to her back.
Suspects – including key government and security service officials have been arrested in relation to the incident, with many more on the run.
