President describes the criticism in human rights as a war

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has described the criticism the country is facing in human rights as a war.

Speaking at the year’s National Day function in H.A. Utheem today, President Yamin said that the Maldives is now facing war through the ideology of the international and regional organizations.

“…to meddle with political freedom today, there won’t be people coming with swords and guns. It is unlikely. But today, these things are done through different economic agendas. The war that comes through the regional and international institutes and organizations that we are part of as well. And, through the ideology of the treaties and institutions that we have taken part of, the javelin of different names are targeted towards us. In the name of human rights, the Maldives is now receiving most criticism.” President Yamin said.

The President said that the biggest problem facing the Maldives is arguing that the country does not have any human rights. President Yamin questioned which of the human rights does the Maldives not have.

Then, the President said that the Maldives does not have the right with the strongest claim from humanity, the right to live.

“If the Maldives does not have any human rights, today I want to say that the Maldives does not have any human rights because the freedom or the guarantee of the strongest right to humanity by the Constitution is absent.” The President said.

President Yamin said that the state is trying to guarantee that the immense acts of violence and crimes that endanger the lives of the people that have taken place recently does not repeat.

Home Minister Umar Naseer, Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar and Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon along with a number of MPs took part in the National Day function today.
