Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has said that land use plans will be drawn up for 70 islands next year.
This year, land was reclaimed in six islands - Haa Alifu Muraidhoo, Alifu Alifu Mathiveri, Alifu Alifu Bodufulhadhoo, Dhaalu Meedhoo, and Kaafu Thulusdhoo - under the ministry’s Planning and Development Controls project.
Out of these six islands, land use plans have been completed for Meedhoo and Thulusdhoo.
Efforts are ongoing to draw up land use plans for 13 additional islands this year.
Out of the 70 islands for next year, contractors would be sought to draw up land use plans for 60 islands, and the remaining ten plans will be done by the ministry.
Housing Ministry said that attention would be paid to the size and the economic focus of the islands, in establishing these plans.
