HRCM calls not to take children to political activities

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has called not to take children to political activities.

In a statement issued yesterday, HRCM said that due the participation of children in political activities, they are concerned about the physical and mental wellbeing of the children and called to put an end to it.

“We call and advise parents, political parties and all of the Maldivian people not to participate children in activities like this.” The HRCM statement said.

The HRCM said that while the Constitution says that no harm shall come to children, they are concerned about the harm that comes to children when the political activities go outside the lines of peaceful and the events that occurs next when parents take children to political activities.

HRCM also called to the relevant authorities to take all the necessary steps to stop children being taken to political activities.

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that steps would be taken against parents that take children to political activities.
