The Sri Lankan sniper who was arrested in Maldives for conspiracy to assassinate President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom has gotten his remand extended by 15 days for a second time.
Information Officer of the Police, Station Inspector Ismail Ali said that the Criminal Court extended the remand of the Sri Lankan national for a second time today.
The sharpshooter was arrested on 24 October, the same day the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb returned to the country from his visit to China.
The Sri Lankan national was allegedly hired by a group of Maldivians to assassinate President Abdulla Yamin.
The Police did not say which individual were involved in the conspiracy. While a number of location were being search in the investigation, a large number of firearms were found in the lagoon of B. Hibalhidhoo, an island leased for resort development. MNDF said that some of the weapons found were missing firearms from their armory.
