Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Abdulla Ziyath, who is in Police custody being investigated, has gotten his remand extended by another 15 days.

Police Media Official told Sun Media today that his remand was extended when he was taken to Criminal Court after the first 15 days had expired.

When the remand was extended by 15 days the first time, the remand was appealed at the High Court. But the court decided that the remand was legitimate.

Ziyath was taken into Police custody in suspicion of corruption in leasing an island for resort development.

Police had conducted a search at his residence, H, Hiyaakoalhi, on the night of 14 October. Some items were confiscated by the Police after their search.

The Office of MMPRC was also searched on 17 October and items were confiscated from there as well. It is unclear what it was that the Police took from the location.

The Court Order to search Ziyath’s residence states the cause for the search as having equipment for listening into calls and having information gathered by hacking into an email.
