Repairs of the streets of Mal

Housing Ministry has begun repairs, leveling the streets of the streets of Malé city on Friday.

Minister Dr. Muizzu tweeted yesterday saying that the project replacing the bricks and repairing the streets of Malé has begun.

Dr. Muizzu has previously said that the bricks on the roads now are years old and that the people have benefited from it for a long time.

He said that the “usable life” of the bricks has been reached and it has happened due to poor maintenance.

The Housing Minister said that their project to level and repair the streets would be on the major roads alone. And so the first road to undergo repairs would be Ameenee Magu. He said that new bricks have been brought for the project. Dr. Muizzu said that the bricks that are still usable out of those still in use will remain in use.

While the Housing Ministry has begun a project to repair the streets of Malè, the Ministry signed an agreement on 6 September with a Chinese company to research a re-design the streets of Malé.

Minister Dr. Muizzu said that the main task of CCCC Highway Consultants Co. Ltd, the Chinese company that was awarded the project, would be to find a permanent solution to the streets of Malé. Minister said that they would have to submit the changes that would come to the city’s traffic flow and the changes that needs to be made.
