First Lady discharged from hospital

First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim has been discharged, after having spent over a month in the hospital following the explosion on the president’s boat “Finifenmaa” on 28 September 2015

While the president was unharmed, the first lady suffered seven spine fractures in the blast.

She was discharged from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

National Inquiry Commission, set up to investigate the incident, has said that the explosion was an assassination attempt against President Abdulla Yameen.

Several suspects including former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb have been arrested.

Adeeb was impeached yesterday by the overwhelming majority of the parliament yesterday.

The motion was submitted to the parliament by Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who said that Adeeb was no longer able to carry out his responsibilities as vice president since he was arrested on suspicion of a criminal offence.

The president’s bodyguard and secretary, who were also injured in the explosion, were discharged from the hospital some days ago.
