Sangu TV is partly owned by Velidhoo MP Abdulla Yameen, who is a member of ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

The court order warranting the search states that the premises need to be searched to find evidence related to death threats issued to the President and senior government officials, and a video on YouTube threatening to carry out acts of terrorism.
