MDP to not take part in the impeachment vote against Vice President Adheeb

Largest opposition party, MDP has decided not to take part in the vote of no-confidence motion against the Vice President Ahmed Adheeb.

A member of the MDP National Committee told Sun Media that it was decided in the committee’s meeting today.

He said that the Committee includes members of the MDP Parliamentary Group and some other members.

Member of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Rozaina Adam tweeted today that there are rumors about illegally changing Article 100 of the Constitution and taking a vote against the Vice President and that MDP would not be voting.

The constitutionally mandated 14-day period given to Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to prepare his defence following the submission of a resolution to the parliament remove him from office, was reduced to seven days today.

Vice President Ahmed Adeeb was given notice on 28 October following the submission of a no-confidence motion against him to the parliament. The issue has not yet been put on the parliament agenda.

The support of the Parliamnet’s one-third of the 85 members is required to impeach the Vice President. That is the vote of 57 members. MDP has 22 members at the Parliament.
