Terrorism Bill returned to committee for further review

The Terrorism Bill, proposed by the government, has been returned to the National Security Committee for further review.

The request to return the bill to the committee was made by Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Mustafa, which was supported by Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef.

The request received 55 votes in favour.

The bill aims to make the Terrorism Act, which came into force in 1990, more relevant to current international standards and the present situation.

It includes procedures to allow detention, monitoring, and control of persons or groups accused of terrorism.

The bill was submitted to parliament by Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Abdulla.
