New US Ambassador presents credentials to President

The new Ambassador of the United States appointed to the Maldives, Atul Keshap, has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office Monday morning, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Keshap on the commencement of his term.

In a meeting afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed ways to further strengthen ties between the two countries, especially in the area of education.

President Yameen highlighted the fifty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and expressed hopes for stronger ties during Ambassador Keshap’s tenure.

They also discussed issues of mutual interest including global terrorism, human rights, and environmental problems, and ways to tackle the challenges being faced in these areas.
