Controller Ilyas transferred to Defence Ministry

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has today appointed Sheikh Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim as the Minister of State for Defence and National Security.

Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim previously held the post of Controller of Immigration and Emigration.

This move comes at a time when Immigration Department yesterday obstructed Anti Corruption Commission’s efforts to investigate the ‘controversial’ border control system issue.

The government has repeatedly said that its policy is to work according to the orders issued by courts and independent institutions.

Dr Mohamed Ali, who previously held the post of Chief of Staff at the President’s Office, was appointed the new Controller of Immigration and Emigration.
