Nihan: President Yameen has absolute majority in PPM

Parliamentary Group Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Vilimalé MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has said that President Abdulla Yameen has absolute majority in the ruling party.

Speaking on Raajje Miadhu on TVM on Thursday, Nihan said that the president can be assured that PPM Parliamentary Group would give full support to allow him to reach his targets.

Nihan’s comments follow rumours of rifts within the party.

He said that rumours have been rife following the blast on the presidential speedboat, but the party has declined to comment until now as advised by the leadership.

He added that a meeting of the Parliament Committee on National Security was called as soon as it was green-lighted by the leadership, and the meeting held yesterday revealed major flaws in the provision of security to the president.
