MNDF and Police officers summoned to the 241 Committee

Officers of the Police and MNDF has been summoned to the National Security Committee of the Parliament (241 Committee) to be questioned regarding the explosion on board the Presidential Launch last month.

Speaking on DhiTV’s Khabaru Therein (Inside News) program, the head of the Committee and the MP for the Kendhikulhudhoo constituency, Ali Mauroof said that the sub-committee established under the 241 Committee summoned officers from the Police and MNDF and inquired about the explosion.

The sub-committee established today has seven members. They are one MP from MDA, JP, MDP and Adhaalath Party and three members from PPM. The head of the Committee is the Majority Leader and the MP for the Vili-Maafannu consitituency, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik. An MP Ali Mauroof is his Deputy.

MP Mauroof said that the purpose of the inquiry was to get the status of the investigation and that was achieved. The MP did not reveal the identities of the officers that were summoned to the meeting today.

He said that the Parliament is observing the investigation of the explosion very closely under President Yamin’s advisement.

A number of MPs and Government Ministers talked about the explosion on board the Presidential Launch tonight across the TV media. Speaking on SanguTV, the Vice President of PPM and MP for the Fonadhoo consitutency, Abdul-Raheem Abdulla said that anyone who wishes the best for the country will not harm the President.

MP Abdul-Raheem said that no one can be pointed a finger at regarding the explosion but he knows it was very well planned.

“This is a launch under the MNDF. Many reasons like this shows that this was very well planned. I won’t say a particular person is involved.” MP Abdul-Raheem said.

The explosion on board the Presidential launch took place on 28 September when it was closing in to the Izzuddin jetty coming from Hulhulé after the President and the First Lady returned to the country after the Hajj Pilgrim. Three MNDF officers have been arrested in the investigation so far. The investigation is being led by the National Inquiry Commission established by the President.
