Lawyer Hassan Latheef from the President Nasheed’s defense team has said that they have started on the steps to put sanctions against different parts of the Government.

Speaking at the press conference tonight, Hassan Latheef said that the international lawyers are working towards it because the Government is refusing to free President Nasheed as the decision made by the UNWGAD under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

“The international lawyers on the President Nasheed’s defense team, they are even now working on it.” Hassan Latheef said.

He said that the international community would not make sanctions against the entire Government but against the people violating the two U.N. treaties.

Hassan Latheef said that the sanctions may include cancelling VISAs to some countries and not issuing new VISA.

He said that result of the sanctions on the independent level would be a negative impact on the economy of the country. And he said that it is a very sad thing.
