A new security division has been established within the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for the president.
The Presidential Security Division (PSD) will take over the functions of the Special Protection Group (SPG) related to provision of security to the president.
Sources have told Sun Online that the Colonel Ibrahim Rasheed has been appointed as the head of the PSD.
Also, Colonel Abdul Raheem has replaced Colonel Ahmed Fayaz as the head of the SPG. Colonel Ahmed Fayaz has been transferred to the post of Commander, Malé Area.
Following the establishment of the PSD, SPG will only provide security to the Speaker of the Parliament, Chief Justice, and Ministers.
