Maldives Meteorological Service has said that winds can increase up to 40 miles per hour (mph) during rainstorms over the next 24 hours.
Noting that heavy rain, rough seas, and strong winds are likely, the authority has advised caution when travelling by sea.
Earlier, Maldives Police and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) also warned for bad weather, as travel is expected to increase during Eid holidays.
Met Office has said that bad weather will be experienced across the country over the next 24 hours, and heavy rain can be expected in northern and central Maldives.
“Winds can be expected at between 5 mph and 13 mph in the south, and between 10 mph and 20 mph in other regions. Gusty winds of 40 mph can be expected during rainstorms.”
Ministry of Transport has urged people to take necessary precaution when travelling by sea during the holidays, and advised vessel operators not to exceed the passenger and cargo limits.
Also, MNDF has launched an operation to search vessels during this period.
