Transport Authority: Transporting goods on passenger vessels is prohibited

Transport Authority has reminded in an announcement today that it is prohibited to transport goods in vessels designed for passengers.

The announcement comes ahead of Eid holidays, when travel by sea is expected to increase.

The authority said that some types of goods can be taken on board passenger vessels, but gas cylinders, cement, wood, dangerous chemicals, and other unsuitable items are prohibited.

They also urged vessel operators to collect information prior to taking children, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women on board.

Vessel operators were also reminded to conduct stability calculation and seek authorisation in this regard when necessary.

Passenger vessels are not allowed to transport any goods other than passenger luggage, and enough space for each passenger and journey time should be taken into account when issuing tickets, the authority said in its announcement.
