Speedboat runs aground on reef with 43 on board

A speedboat with 43 people on board has run aground on a reef near Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa.

The incident took place at around 7:00 p.m. today.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that everyone has been rescued, and the operation at the scene of the accident by MNDF Malé Area is ongoing.

Efforts are also under way by Coast Guard divers to refloat the vessel.
