Boat capsizes with five on board

A boat with five people on board has capsized near Baa Anantara Resort.

Police said that the boat was transporting sand to the resort and the incident took place at around 4:30 p.m. today.

All five crew members on board were rescued by staff of Anatara Resort.

An official of the resort told Sun Online that the boat belongs to Raa Maduvvari, and is used by the resort on contract basis to transport sand.

Everyone rescued is in good condition, and the boat has been taken to Baa Kudarikili by police with assistance from resort staff.

“The sea is very rough in this region, and the boat was probably overloaded with sand bags. That could be why it capsized,” the resort official said.
