Ministry of Health has opened applications for membership of Maldives Nursing and Midwifery Council, to be established under the Healthcare Professionals Act, for a second time.
The ministry said that not enough applications were received following the first announcement in August 2015.
The main responsibilities of the council include registration of nurses and midwives, establishment of criteria for the issuance of licences to nurses and midwives, and the establishment of education standards accepted in the country to qualify as nurses and midwives.
According to the Healthcare Professionals Act, the council is responsible for investigating complaints; and visiting sites, questioning those involved, assessing documents, and preparing reports as part of the investigation.
The law also states that members of the council shall be reputable and adhere to disciplinary and ethical standards.
Health Ministry said that applicants will be evaluated and given a score based on education and experience.
The deadline for submitting applications is 3:00 p.m. on 30 September 2015.
