PG: Couldn

Prosecutor General, Muhthaaz Muhsin has said that he couldn’t meet Amaal Clooney from former President Mohamed Nasheed’s international team of lawyers, because he did not have time.

In an interview to Sun Media tonight, PG Muhthaaz Muhsin said that when Amaal Clooney requested to meet him, he responded that he cannot meet due to scheduling.

“I said that I cannot meet due to scheduling. I didn’t say I won’t meet.” PG Muhthaaz Muhsin said.

While Amaal Clooney has raised concerns that she couldn’t meet him, PG Muhthaaz Muhsin said that he cannot understand why it is so important to meet him.

“Amaal doesn’t have a case in Maldives. PG is not a lawyer in President Nasheed’s case at the U.N. The state of reference in that case is the Attorney General. The Attorney General met with Amaal.” PG Muhthaaz Muhsin said.

PG Muhthaaz Muhsin said that in cases where the state is pressing charges, if those charged requests a meeting, thePG has been always been meeting with them. And so when a family member of the former President requested that meeting, PG Muhthaaz said that he met with the said family member.

Muhthaaz said that if President Nasheed’s lawyer wants a meeting, the opportunity would be given to them as well.

“If they want a meeting on behalf of President Nasheed, PG would meet when a lawyer in the case comes.” Muhthaaz Muhsin said.

Speaking at a press conference today, Amaal Clooney said that the Prosecutor General has refused to meet with her.
