Housing Ministry signs agreement with MRDC for artificial beach project

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has signed an agreement with Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) for work related to the construction of a new artificial beach on the west side of Malé.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony at Housing Ministry today, by Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Managing Director of MRDC Ibrahim Nazeem.

The agreement covers the construction of a new road, pavement, and water draining system, and assigning space for planting trees.

Dr Muizzu said that in addition to the new beach area, trees will also be planted from West Park up to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The estimated cost of the two-month project is MVR 1.9 million.

Nazeem said that the work will begin on Sunday and assured that the project would be completed on time.

Dr Muizzu said that many components of the new artificial beach project are already under way, including the components awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Public Works Services.

Housing Ministry’s aim is to complete the project before the end of the year.
