MP for the South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof has sent a letter to President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom requesting the details of the jobs created by the government.
MP Mahloof submitted the letter following the President’s speech last night at the closing ceremony of the convention last night. Referring to the Youth Minister’s words on a T.V. program, President Yamin said that 42,000 jobs have been officially created.
“Looking at the jobs audited so far, 42,000 jobs have been created. But in his (Youth Minister Zuhoor) own judgment, more than 50,000 jobs have been created now.” President Yamin said.
Speaking to the media in front of the President’s Office after submitting the letter, MP Mahloof said that he was doubtful when President Yamin said that he’d create 94,000 jobs during his campaign, but the President kept repeating that it can be done.
Mahloof said that it is joyous news if 50,000 jobs have been created and 42,000 of those are being taken by the youth. And that is something every Maldivian should be proud of.
“I submitted a letter with joy to President Yamin to share the detailed information with me and the Maldivian people. The total jobs created and the sector in which it was created in.
Secondly, happily and proudly share the name, address and island of the 42,000 employed youth. So the Maldivian people would clearly know where that 42,000 jobs have been created.” MP Mahloof said.
Mahloof said that he submitted a letter because some people are expressing concerns about it. He said that mentioning such a high number would create doubt in the hearts of the people.
MP Mahloof also said that even if that information is shared by the President’s Office, he would work to get the information about jobs created at the Government offices and companies since President Yamin came into power.
