MET: No indications of sea swells

MET Office has said that they don’t think sea swells would be affecting any island of the Maldives in the coming week.

Malé City and some of the southern islands were affected with sea swells during high tide at the end of this past week.

The Deputy Director General of the MET Office, Ali Shareef told Sun Media today that they don’t think sea swells would be experienced in the Maldives in the coming week.

“Right now sea swells are less, now we don’t estimate there would be sea swelling this week.” Ali Shareef said.

He said that although there won’t be sea swells, bad weather is expected across the country.

MET Office says that showers are expected this afternoon in parts of the central and northern atolls with thunderstorms. And winds are expected to pick up to between 8 – 18 miles an hour from west and southwest in the Southern atolls and winds upto 10 – 20 miles an hour and about 45 miles an hour during showers.

Sea are expected to be rough on average and more turbulent during showers.

In the rainstorm last Friday, houses were damaged in Fuvahmulah and Addu City.
