After suspension of about two to three months, Police have resumed issuing traffic stickers for parking violations.
The stickers were suspended after the amendment to the Land Transportation Law. After the bill was passed and ratified, all the previous fines for parking violations were forgiven. Chief Station Inspector, Ahmed Sujaau said that the Police have resumed the traffic stickers for parking violations with the ratification of the bill by the President.
“We are now taking steps. Stickers are being issued now, there has been no changed with the measures taken with the passing of the bill. Meaning although it was forgiven for the previous violations, (now, as before) steps are being taken.” Inspector Sujaau said.
The law says that although the previous fines were forgiven, the fines for the new stickers have to be paid.
The amendment to the law says that all the fines for parking violations and the suspension of the driving license for any reason would be forgiven with the implementation of the law.
The driving licenses suspended by the Police have not been released yet. But the Police Media Official said that the Police are making the preparations for it.
The law defines the maximum duration allowed for uninterrupted parking at parking zones established by the relevant ministry, as seven days.
It gives police the authority to remove vehicles parked for longer than seven days, and states that details of the vehicles thus removed shall be announced within 24 hours.
Owners will have 60 days to reclaim the vehicle, after which Police have the authority to destroy or put them up for auction, states the new law.
