Two companies were assigned the task of building coastal protection structures in three islands on Sunday as part of Public Sector Investment Plan (PSIP) projects planned for 2015.
Coastal protection structures are to be built in Haa Alif Atoll Hoarafushi, Alif Alif Atoll Ukulhas, and Dhaal Atoll Maaenboodhoo.
The task of building coastal protection structure in Hoarafushi has been assigned to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), while the task of buiding coastal protection structures in Ukulhas and Maaenboodhoo has been assigned to SAS-e Construction Private Limited.
In a ceremony held at Environment Ministry, the contracts were signed on behalf of Maldivian government by Environment Minister Toriq Ibrahim, and behalf of MTCC by CEO Ibrahim Raheem Abdul Razzaq and on behaf of SAS-e Construction Private Limited by MD Saudhulla Ahmed.
A 570 meter rock revetment to north-east and a 230 meter rock revetment to south-east are to be built in Hoarafushi. This MVR 19 million project has been assigned for MTCC to complete in 180 days.
The MVR 8.9 million project in Ukulhas includes filling the north side of the island with 6,600m3 of sand and constructing a 280 meter rock boulder revetment to protect the beach. The project is contracted to be completed in 157 days.
Meanwhile, the MVR 19.6 million project in Maaenboodhoo includes a 220 meter rock revetment to north-east of the island, a 550 meter rock revetment to the south-east side of the island, a 255 meter geobag revetment to north-west of the island and a 190 meter geobag revetment to south-west of the island. The project is contracted to be completed within 159 days.
