Finance Minister to be questioned by the Parliament about the events of country’s 50th Independence Day.
The “Notice of Questioning Ministers” presented by the MP for the Addu-Meedhoo constituency, Rozaina Adam says that it is to find out the state budget and spending details of the Independence Day festivities.
According to the Parliament regulations, if an MP wants to question a cabinet minister, the Parliament has to give that minister a notice of 14 days.
When asked about the expenses of the Independence Day events, the Finance Minister, Abdulla Jihad said that the government set a budget of MVR 150 million and the expenses has not exceeded the budget.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was active at the office set for the Independence Day activities every day to see if any form of corruption was taking place. Some of the projects in the festivities were awarded to companies without any bids. But those were awarded with a special permit from the Finance Ministry.
