The Hulhumalé Planning and Construction regulations issued with permits to construct buildings up to five floors.
Hulhumalé only allowed four floors up to now.
According to the regulation issued by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), buildings can be constructed to 1505 meters high with five floors.
The new regulation states that every house must have a garage. But as long as there are no vehicles registered to a house, they can use the space as a shop or another use.
With the new regulations, changes have also been made to the Floor Space Index (FSI) of the buildings constructed in Hulhumalé. And so the FSI at a neighborhood is 3.80 and FSI of neighborhood 2 and 3 is 3.20.
While Hulhumalé now allows buildings up to five floors, the Housing Ministry has decided to allow buildings up to 20 floors in Malé City.
